How to Schedule a New Emirates ID Appointment in UAE

How to Schedule a New Emirates ID Appointment in UAE

Obtaining an Emirates ID is one of the first and most important steps for anyone living in the UAE. Whether you are a new resident, a first-time applicant, or renewing an expired card, scheduling an appointment correctly can save you significant time and effort.

What Is an Emirates ID?

The Emirates ID is a mandatory national identity card issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) to all UAE nationals and residents. It serves as the primary identification document in the UAE and is required for almost every official transaction — from opening a bank account to accessing government services.

Who Needs to Apply for a New Emirates ID?

  • New residents receiving their first UAE residency visa
  • UAE nationals who have never been issued an Emirates ID
  • Anyone whose Emirates ID has been lost or damaged

Required Documents

Before booking your appointment, make sure you have the following documents ready:

  • Original passport with valid UAE residence visa (for expats)
  • Original UAE birth certificate (for UAE nationals)
  • Recent passport-size photograph with white background
  • Entry permit or visa stamping page (for new residents)
  • Previous Emirates ID (if applicable)

How to Schedule a New Emirates ID Appointment

Method 1: ICP Smart Services App (Recommended)

The fastest and most convenient way to book an appointment is through the ICP Smart Services mobile app, available on both the App Store and Google Play.

Step 1: Download and open the ICP Smart Services app.

Step 2: Register or log in to your account using your UAE mobile number.

Step 3: Select "New Emirates ID" or "Emirates ID Services" from the main menu.

Step 4: Choose your preferred typing center or ICP service center from the list of available locations.

Step 5: Select an available date and time slot that suits you.

Step 6: Confirm your appointment and save the reference number.

Method 2: ICP Website

Visit the official ICP website at icp.gov.ae, navigate to the Emirates ID section, and follow the same steps online.

Method 3: Typing Centers

Authorized typing centers across the UAE can submit your Emirates ID application and book your biometric appointment on your behalf. This is a popular option for those who prefer in-person assistance.

What Happens at the Appointment?

At the Emirates ID registration center, a staff member will:

  1. Verify your original documents
  2. Capture your biometric data — fingerprints (all ten fingers) and a digital photograph
  3. Confirm your application details

The process typically takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Processing Time and Fees

Once your biometrics are captured, your Emirates ID is usually processed within 3 to 5 working days. You will receive an SMS notification when your card is ready for collection or delivery.

Fees vary based on the card validity period:

  • 1 year: AED 100
  • 2 years: AED 200
  • 3 years: AED 300

An additional AED 40 service fee applies at most typing centers.

How to Track Your Emirates ID Status

You can track your application status through the ICP Smart Services app or website using your application number or passport number.
